South Africa: Cosatu North West to Fight for Jobs At Helam Mine

press release

The Congress of South African Trade Unions in the NW warns Helam mine share holders that it must never start talking about retrenching workers, but rather talk about improving the conditions of workers who have been exploited by the bosses since the establishment of the mine.

Workers have been faced with poor conditions and injuries during working hours. Now today the employer talks about retrenching workers even before it can explain to the workers why are they are doing so. The mine knows very well that it has not been complying with the social labour plan; it has been making profits from those poor workers labour and pays them peanuts.
