Gambia: UNFPA Supports Gamcotrap to Eliminate FGM

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), in collaboration with The Gambia Government has provided funds for GAMCOTRAP to implement activities, geared towards awareness creation on harmful traditional practices, such as Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), forced and early marriages in various districts of the Gambia.

In a press release sent to the Daily Observer, it stated that in line with the Gambia Government's commitment to advance gender equality and empowerment of women and as indicated in the various policy documents to promote and protect women's rights GAMCOTRAP will engage to contribute to support the Government of the Gambia in achieving this commitment.
