South Africa: Finance Minister Facebook Accounts Are Fake

Pretoria — The Ministry of Finance has issued a warning to members of the public that there are a number of false Facebook accounts which claim to be that of the Minister of Finance, Nhlanhla Nene.

"These accounts are part of ongoing attempts to con the public, both in South Africa and abroad, of their hard-earned money. These include bogus letters or emails which purport to be from the Ministry and associated institutions," said the ministry on Friday.

The ministry has condemned the use of Minister's name and photographs for these fake accounts.

It reiterated that such scams can only succeed to the extent that members of the public fall for them. - SAnews.gov.za
