Somalia: Somali, Amisom Forces Seize District in Bakol

Somali government and African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) troops have seized Tiyeglow district in Bakol region from al-Shabaab militants, Radio Bar-Kulan reported Thursday (August 21st).

Hudur District Commissioner Mohamed Moalim Ahmed said allied forces captured the district and other nearby towns without resistance from the militants, who reportedly fled in advance of troops' arrival.

Meanwhile, Somali government forces clashed with al-Shabaab militants in May-karebe village near Garbaharey town.

Al-Shabaab fighters ambushed the soldiers on Thursday as they were travelling from Luq district to Garbaharey town. Somali forces repelled the attack, although two soldiers sustained light injuries.
