Nigeria: Jonathan Hails Falconets Despite Losing to Germany

Abuja — President Goodluck Jonathan Monday told the Nigeria's under-20 women's football team, the Falconets that Nigerians were proud of their skillful, highly spirited and patriotic performance at the just concluded FIFA Under-20 Women's World Cup Tournament in Canada, their loss in extra time to their German counterparts in the keenly contested finals notwithstanding.

In a statement issued by his special adviser on media and publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, the president congratulated the Falconets, on behalf of himself, the federal government and the people of Nigeria, for winning the silver medal at the Tournament, saying he was looking forward to honouring the team with a reception at the presidential villa on their return from Canada.
