Ghana: 59 Participants Trained With Employable Skills

The Kumawu Business Advisory Centre (BAC), as the basic implementing unit at the district and community levels in the Sekyere Kumawu district has undertaken three community-based skills training programmes for three communities in the district.

The participants were trained in fortified gari production at Bodomase, advanced soap making at Kumawu and advanced palm oil Extraction at Nkwanta.

The three training programme which began on 21st July and ended on the 19th August, 2014 had trained 59 participants comprising 21 males and 38 females.

The District Chief Executive, Honourable Samuel Asiamah, at the closing the ceremony implored the participants to take the skills acquired seriously. He said the Assembly was ready to assist anyone who wished to expand their business.

He also advised them to be moderate in the use of chemicals so as not to pollute the environment and to also strive to acquire the Ghana Standards Authority Certification. He commended the BAC and encouraged its staff to continue to bring glory to the Assembly.

For his part, the head of BAC, Mr Tchedre Ibrahim, advised the participants to quickly get into production in order to stand the chance to qualify for more goodies from the Rural Enterprise Programme (REP). He asked them to register their businesses and keep proper records just as they had been taught through the training.

The ultimate goal of National Board for Small Scale Industries (NBSSI), the REP, and the Sekyere Kumawu District Assembly (KDA), is to alleviate poverty especially among the entrepreneurial poor.

These bodies aim at achieving this goal through the provision of employment or self / wage opportunities for its clients, increase income levels of people, provide technical and financial support to Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) among others.
