Kenya: Police Allay Fears of Imminent Attacks in Ngao, Tana River County

POLICE in Tana Delta in Tana River have allayed fears of a looming attack after three suspected attackers were nabbed by Ngao residents.

The residents said the suspects could have been from a rival community.

The three were caught trying to steal cattle from a home in Ngao.

"This is what they normally do. They come, steal our cattle and when nothing happens, they return for more heavy cattle raids," said Jiso Bvere a local businessman.

He said the attackers struck at 1am and were nabbed because most residents were not asleep.

Police rescued the captured suspected as residents threatened to lyinch them.

Tana Delta police boss Robinson Thuku said they are treating the incident as a cattle raid.

"These are common cases especially between Kipao and Ngao. We are still investigating the matter. It is too early to start speculating their motive," he told the Star on the phone yesterday.
