Kenya: Thirteenth Huduma Centre Officially Opened in Mombasa

The Ministry of Devolution has opened the Mombasa Huduma centre being the first one in the coast region with Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru applauding the efforts of the centre since they started operations.

The launch was presided over by President Uhuru Kenyatta. Also in attendance were other Coastal key leaders including Mombasa County Governor Ali Hassan Joho.

"The Mombasa Huduma Centre serves an average of 1,200 customers per day. To date, the centre has served more than 35,000 customers. The total revenue collected in this centre so far is more than Kshs 31 million," said CS Waiguru.

CS Waiguru further added that the government has entered into a partnership with the Postal Corporation of Kenya (PCK) to collect revenues on behalf of any Ministry, Department or Agency that provides services in the Huduma Centre through the PostaPay electronic Payment Gateway. This, she said, was in order to accord customers a one-stop shop experience, and improve efficiency in the Public Service.

Also according to some tweets posted on Ann Waiguru's timeline, Huduma Centre Mombasa is highly enabled by ICT systems: Queue Management system (QMS), to organize customer traffic; a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) to enable agencies to access their back-end systems; and a Knowledge Management Portal (KMP) that contains information on all services so as to drive excellence in Public Service delivery through the adoption of an Integrated service delivery system. She also pointed out the centre had been in operation since June 10th 2014 and is currently providing 20 government services.

The Mombasa Huduma Centre, located at the General Post Office, will be the 13th facility. The Huduma centres are set to be rolled out in all counties but are currently in Nairobi, Mombasa, Eldoret, Machakos, Kakamega, Kisumu, Nyeri, Embu and Nakuru.

Huduma Kenya is a programme that aims to transform public service delivery by providing citizens access to various public services and information from One Stop Shop citizen service centres called Huduma Centres and through integrated technology platforms.
