Egypt: WTO's Director General to Discuss Bali Deal With Egypt's Trade Minister

Cairo — Egyptian Minister of Industry and Trade Mounir Fakhry AbelNour is scheduled to hold a press conference on Tuesday with World Trade Organisation Director-General Roberto Azevêdo during his visit to Cairo.

The press conference will address the latest developments of negotiations with the World Trade Organisation on the Bali Trade Facilitation Agreement, which was concluded at the Bali Ministerial Conference in December 2013, according to a trade ministry statement.

"The Bali Agreement is facing crisis as India changed its stance towards the facilitation of trade by demanding a renegotiation, which threatens the failure of the agreement," said the statement.

Egypt's economy, crippled by almost four years of social and political turmoil, has been supported in recent months by funding from several Gulf Arab states.
