The popular Big Brother Africa house, located inside the Sesani Studios, Johannesburg South Africa, was this afternoon gutted by fire.

With the cause of the fire reportedly unknown, the organisers of Big Brother Africa, M-Net and Endemol SA, announced that the 2014 edition of the reality show, tagged the Big Brother Hotshots, scheduled for September 7, has been postponed.

"At this stage M-Net and Endemol are urgently looking for an alternative Big Brother house in which to film the production. However as this production has a highly technical infrastructure, camera and edit requirement, an alternative is not immediately available.

"Every effort will be made to find a solution as quickly as possible to ensure that Africa's biggest reality show will continue," the organisers said in a statement.

They promised to keep the fans of the show updated.

This is the 9th season of the controversial reality show, which started in 2003, with a three year break before continuing in 2007.

Nigeria has won the competition three times. The last winner of the controversial cable show, which features nudity, sex and drunken housemates, was Namibia's Delish Matthews.
