Africa: We Have No Jurisdiction in Gaza, Says ICC Prosecutor

Arusha — International Criminal Court Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda on Tuesday issued a statement refuting "recent media reports and commentaries" suggesting she has persistently avoided investigating alleged war crimes in Gaza because of political pressure.

"The Office of the Prosecutor of the ICC has never been in a position to open such an investigation for lack of jurisdiction," says the statement. "We have always, clearly and publicly, stated the reasons why this is so."
