Maputo — Despite the clear ban in the Mozambican electoral legislation on the use of state assets such as vehicles in political party campaigns, reports are trickling in from various parts of the country of members of the ruling Frelimo Party using state-owned cars in the current campaign ahead of the 15 October general elections.
The latest issue of the “Mozambique Political Process Bulletin”, published by the Association of European Parliamentarians for Africa (AWEPA), and the Mozambican anti-corruption NGO, the Centre for Public Integrity (CIP), gives the registration plates of several such vehicles.
