Multi-award winning jazz guitarist and singer, Kunle Ayo, will tonight entertain Nairobians at the Safaricom Jazz concert held at the Carnivore. Kunle spoke to members of the fourth estate on Tuesday saying that jazz music has a home in Africa all we have to do is "grow the genre by finding the kind of jazz music you love and doing a lot of collaborations. I hope to meet Kenyan artistes and make something that will make an impact that cam probably be exported."
He continued, "It all begins with (audiences) being receptive to jazz music. People tend to appreciate what they hear and we need to market ourselves. The other artistes out there market the dance style what you call afro-beat. They invest a lot of money in shooting music videos and promote it for a few month after which the audiences loose interest. With jazz the same need to be done to market it." Kunle said he was drawn to the guitar when he was still studying accounting in college. "I could just not let it go," he said, "Luckily things started working out for me and I got a call from Nigerian star Lagbaja who I toured extensively with. I realised that we have something here. Music is in our veins."
