Nigeria: Shippers' Council Battles Monopoly, Arbitrary Fee Hikes At Ports Facilities

The stage is set for the Nigerian Shippers' Council (NSC) to prove its mettle as ports commercial regulator as it is being confronted with two key issues: hike in prices and monopolistic tendencies in the sector.

While the Council has received incessant complaints about hike in prices and monopolistic tendency of Integrated Logistics Limited (Intels), it has also frowned at the action of the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) over alleged introduction of collection of increased berth rent from terminal operators without consultation with or permission of the regulator.
