Western Sahara: President of Republic Names Chair of SADR Petroleum and Mining Authority

Bir Lehlou — President of the Republic, Secretary General of the Polisario Front Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz has appointed Dr. Ghali Zbeir, as a chair of the Petroleum and Mining Authority of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic, according to a presidential decree issued Thursday.

"Based on the powers conferred on him by the Constitution of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), particularly Article 58, and after seeing Article 1, paragraph 3 and 4, and Articles 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 of Mining Law, the President of the Republic appoints Dr. Ghali Hamdi Zbeir as a chair of the Petroleum and Mining Authority of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic," reads the presidential decree, a copy of which obtained by SPS.

Born on 15 March 1970, Dr. Ghali Zbeir has a PhD in Geology and Minerals from the University of Russia.

On 26 May 2014, the Saharawi National Council (parliament) approved the Petroleum and Mineral Law.
