Nigeria: Stakeholders Agree On Good Communication to Stem Violence

With electioneering campaign gathering momentum and politicians throwing jibes at one another in order to get citizens attention for support, it may not yet be uhuru for the nation's democracy if the present political tension is anything to go by. In this report, Olamide Bakare who attended a public lecture recently organised by the Lagos institute of Public relation (NIPR), takes a critical look at the role of communication in achieving an election devoid of violence, come 2015 as expressed by stakeholders..

The earlier announcement by the organiser of the conference, the Lagos chapter of NIPR few weeks ago that a lecture was to be held as part of its Annual General Meeting (AGM), quickly suggested that the professionally body was not only in tune with current reality, but also determined to contribute its own quota in ensuring and sustaining the nation's nascent democracy. Indeed it was as the programme provided the platform to engage all the critical stakeholders including communications experts and the citizens.
