Southern Africa: African Declaration on Internet Rights and Freedoms Gets Heads-Up at SAIGF

press release

The African Declaration on Internet Rights and Freedoms received wide-scale validation last week, with a further recommendation by the just-concluded 3rd Southern African Internet Governance Forum (SAIGF) that it be endorsed by all African stakeholders, including regional and sub-regional bodies, national governments, civil society organisations, media institutions, relevant technology and Internet companies.

The African Declaration on Internet Rights and Freedoms is a Pan-African initiative to promote human rights standards and openness principles in internet-policy making on the continent. It aims to advance a movement in support of an internet which is accessible, locally relevant, and a tool for successful development. MISA was among approximately 20 organisations that were involved in the development of the Declaration.
