Nigeria: Court Acquits Lagos Speaker of Corruption Charges

Lagos — A federal high court dismissed on Friday the money laundering charges brought against Lagos State House of Assembly speaker, Adeyemi Ikuforiji and his personal assistant, Oyebode Atoyebi by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Justice Ibrahim Buba, in his ruling on the no-case submission filed by the two accused, said the prosecution had failed to establish a prima facie case against the defendants.He said the suit constituted an abuse of court process, adding that his court had the duty to determine if a case had been made against the defendants on the basis of all the evidence before the court.
