Kenya: Parents Worry As Blazes Gut Dormitories

Migori parents are worried over their children's safety after fires broke out in three schools at the weekend. They urged the county government to buy firefighting equipment for the eight subcounties. On Sunday night, property worth more than Sh2 million was destroyed when fire gutted a dorm at Nyabisawa Girls Secondary School.

Resident Joseph Kangira said students were in their classrooms for preps. "The fire started at an electric meter and quickly spread," he said. Teacher Emma Amollo told the Star no student was hurt as residents and students contained the fire.
