Liberia: Chronicle Newspaper Case Moves to Full Supreme Court Bench

Monrovia — The case, including the National Chronicle Newspaper whose publication was suspended by the Government of Liberia has been moved to the full bench of the Supreme Court of Liberia after Acting Justice in Chambers, Associate Justice Kabineh J'aneh announced that he could not rule in the writ of prohibition filed by the Press Union of Liberia challenging the closure of the newspaper barely two months ago.

Acting Justice In Chambers J'aneh who presided over the prohibition hearing Monday said he could not rule alone in the case because the issues raised by the petitioner, the Press Union of Liberia where all constitutional. "When constitutional issues are raised before this court only the full bench will hear those issues and make determination" said Justice J'aneh the lone Associate Justice presiding.
