East Africa: Rwandans to Benefit From EAC Court - Chief Justice

Chief Justice Sam Rugege has said that Rwandans will benefit from the Eastern African Court of Justice (EACJ), which has as major responsibility to ensure the adherence to law in the interpretation and application of East African Community treaties.

The EACJ is an international court unlike the defunct East African Court of Appeal which handled only appeals from national courts. While the court does not have the power to deliver punishments, but rather advises national courts, Rugege is adamant it is a useful institution for Rwandans.
