Ethiopia: In Quest of a Greener Addis

Since starting a private car rental service a decade ago, Solomon Wolde, 47, has been traveling across the country.

Because of his passion for flowers and potted plants, he tirelessly visited private gardens in his destinations. He has been to almost all parts of the country at times tagging along with tourists. Gazing at his front garden dotted with flowers and potted plants, brought back memories - memories of his backpacking days. Solomon adores his modest living quarters located around the western outlet from the city, Gulele. The breath of fresh air his potted plants bring to his compound is hard to come by these days, according to him. Thanks to the construction boom, today's Addis is a clutter of concrete structures for Solomon - a concrete jungle with less and less room to breathe.
