Nigeria: Lagos Seeks Support for People With Mental Illness

AS the nations commemorate World Mental Health Day (WMHD) Friday, the Lagos State Government has appealed for emotional and practical support for people living with schizophrenia - a long term disorder of the brain which affects how a person thinks, feels and acts.

The theme of this year's WMHD is "Living With Schizophrenia." Lagos Commissioner for Health, Dr. Jide Idris, said Thursday during an awareness walk and road show that the roles to be played by friends and relations in the care for an individual with schizophrenia cannot be overemphasized.
