Namibia: Pregnant Woman's Killer Jailed for 35 Years

A WARNING that Namibia's courts will not be soft on murderers was again repeated in the Windhoek High Court yesterday, when a Swakopmund resident convicted of killing his pregnant girlfriend with a knife was sentenced to 35 years' imprisonment.

There is no doubt that murder is a serious crime and that it warrants severe punishment, Judge Nate Ndauendapo said during the sentencing of Elifas Hailonga, who was convicted on charges of murder and assault on 22 July.
