Namibia: Amazon FC, a Spectrum of Light for the Hopeless - Empowering the Youth Through Football

Windhoek — For 30-year old Nelson Shipandeni, it was never about scoring wonder goals or collecting Man of the Match accolades that really mattered to him as a footballer during his heydays, but it was his ability to make the right play when it was most needed and those qualities still reflect in his aproach in everything he does today.

Having witnessed most of his close friends and members of his community vanish in a pool of social ills such as alcohol and drug abuse, a then young Shipandeni, who now works at the Khomas Regional Council as a clerk, founded the Amazon Football Club (FC) back in 2007 with the sole aim of giving the children of Otjomuise and surrounding locations such as 7de and 8st Laan a safe and fun environment to sharpen their skills, while also learning the basics of life through the club. After founding the club, Shipandeni also played for the club for about two years before taking over as the team's coach.
