Millions of Hindu devotees are today celebrating Diwali, an ancient festival. Diwali is a popular festival celebrated globally among Hindus with a great zeal. But how much do you know about this auspicious festival?

Significance of Deepawali: Dewali (Sanskrit Deepavali, "row of lights"), also transliterated Deepavali or Diwali (contracted spelling) is a Hindu festival of lights lasting five days. For many Hindus, Diwali is also New Year's Eve. In general, Diwali signifies the triumph of good over evil, of righteousness over treachery, of truth over falsehood, and of light over darkness. (asato ma sadgamaya tamaso ma jyotirgamaya mrtyorma amrtam gamaya literally means 'lead me from untruth to the truth, lead me from darkness to light, lead me from death to immortality).
