Zimbabwe: When Elephants Fight . . .

editorial

IT is quite true that when elephants fight, it is the grass that suffers. When ZANU-PF trounced the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) formations at the July 2013 polls, it was everyone's hope that the governing party would live up to their word. Ahead of the polls, ZANU-PF officials criss-crossed the provinces, brandishing an election manifesto that promised citizens an end to their misery once they had been voted into power. That hope has since turned into disappointment.

There are murmurs in certain quarters as disgruntled citizens curse themselves for trusting politicians. Even though it is only 15 months into ZANU-PF's five-year mandate, it doesn't appear as if the situation will change for the better in the coming 45 months. If anything, it may get worse. Key players are savaging each other in the political ring instead of tackling Zimbabwe's multi-faceted economic challenges.
