South Africa: Committee Adopts BRR Report

Parliament — The Portfolio Committee on Small Business Development yesterday adopted the Budget Review and Recommendations (BRR) Report, thereby outlining challenges faced by small, medium and micro-enterprises (SMMEs) and recommends solutions. Some of the challenges identified by the Committee include access to finance and markets, lack of adequate infrastructure to enable smooth operation and late payment of invoices by government departments.

In order to collect information for the report, the Committee interacted with the Department of Small Business Development (DSBD) and different entities, organisations and individuals including Pick n Pay, Ithala Development Bank, Statistics South Africa and a student who is studying for a masters degree on the mortality of cooperatives in Limpopo Province.
