Nigeria: In Kano, Textile Traders Lament the Chinese

Kano — In Kano State, the local traders in textile materials are up in arms against their Chinese competitors. The traders fear that the Chinese may just bring their (traders) business crashing down, as they allegedly did in ruining the country's once-thriving textile manufacturing industry.

Textile manufacturers in Nigeria still hold Chinese importers of textile materials largely responsible for the collapse of their enterprise. Up till the 1990s, textile factories that dotted Kaduna, Kano, Lagos and Aba in Abia state contributed immensely in the stimulation of the country's economy. From across the country and even beyond, textile traders', especially major marketers, were always patronising these states in order to buy their textile products.
