Nigeria: Ceasefire Agreed to By Boko Haram Deceitful

24 November 2014

FORMER Commander, 31 Airborne Brigade Makurdi, General Yakubu Rimdan (rtd), has picked holes in the purported ceasefire agreement between the Federal Government and the dreaded Boko Haram, describing it as nothing but a deceit. He said he was really shocked because before the ceasefire agreement, there was a meeting held by Nigeria, Cameroun, Niger, Mali, Chad where all their Defence Chiefs were present.

Rimdan argued that the meeting agreed that all the representatives of the countries agreed to go back and reconvene and take far-reaching decisions on the outcome of the meeting. "But I am surprised that they left not quite a day then this issue of ceasefire came up. I was so surprised also to hear that the Defence Headquarters asked our troops, who are the frontlines to heed to the ceasefire agreement. It is difficult to believe that we as Nigerians have not known the details of this agreement that was reached, the conditionality for the agreement, we are not aware of it."
