Rwanda Successfully Conducts Ebola Simulation Exercise

Kigali — As part of existing measures to protect Rwandans and visitors against emergency health outbreaks, Rwanda today successfully conducted an Ebola preparedness simulation exercise. The scenario aimed to assess the country's readiness for a suspected case of Ebola and test the capabilities of national response teams.

The exercise involved practical scenarios such as handling an Ebola patient from an aircraft to the national treatment facility. The drill also included treating and transporting the patient, ensuring the safety of health workers, the proper disposal and disinfection of items and materials used, safe burial procedures, providing grief counselling to family members and communication and updates to the public and between members of the response teams.
