Mozambique: Renamo Insists On 'Caretaker Government'

Maputo — Antonio Muchanga, spokesperson for Afonso Dhlakama, leader of the former rebel movement Renamo, on Friday claimed that “the majority of Mozambicans” do not accept the results of the 15 October general elections, as announced by the National Elections Commission (CNE).

“That's why we are proposing a caretaker government”, he told a Maputo press conference. “We have a responsibility for this country. We cannot watch passively as events unfold, because it is our duty to guarantee democracy, freedom and well-being for our people. So we are promising a serious dialogue which will culminate in an undertaking about the future of the country”.
