Central Africa: ICGLR Regional Training Facility Gets Building Space From Uganda Government

press release

Entebbe — The ICGLR Regional Training Facility (RTF) on Prevention and Suppression of Sexual Violence in the Great Lakes Region got Uganda government's promise for 5 acres to build its headquarters in Kampala. The promise came Thursday from the Inspector General of police, General Kale Kayuhura, while opening a three day-training of ICGLR Member States Police Officers on Forensic Evidence Management for prevention and suppression of Sexual Violence, in Entebbe. So far the RTF is hosted by the ministry for Gender in Kampala.

The statement was made in presence of ICGLR Executive Secretary, Professor Ntumba Luaba who also addressed the opening session. Professor Ntumba pointed out that the training is a tremendous step towards achieving "Zero Tolerance " to SGBV in the Great Lakes region as wished by ICGLR Heads of States in their 2011 Kampala Declaration. He raised high figures of sexual violence perpetrated in the region but regretted that not all of them are documented due to lack of evidence. The use of forensic evidence based on DNA technology therefore will assist in successful prosecutions of cases of sexual and gender based violence.
