Arusha — WILD carnivores and livestock keepers never mix, but if the pastoralists living in the West-Kilimanjaro plains were to choose between local lions and hyenas from across the border, then the adage 'Better the devil you know,' would be applicable.
There is a misconception that out there in the wild, it is the predatory lions who usually hunt, while the 'scavenging' hyenas follow the large cats' trails so as to feed on the leftover carcasses.
