South Africa: Condemnation for Attack At Ngcobo, Eastern Cape

press release

King William's Town — The criminal behavior of the community of Drayini Locality, Ngcobo, near Mthatha, which led to the attack and burning to death of two suspects, aged 27 and 30 has been strongly condemned by the South African Police Service in the Eastern Cape. A stern warning is issued to members of the community, not to take the law into their own hands. The SAPS will not tolerate this behavior, because avenge seekers become criminals themselves, and SAPS will have no option, but to arrest them for their unlawful actions. It is very critical that the community members work with the SAPS and report criminals and criminal activities irrespective of the nature of the incident.

This relates to an incident which took place on 28 December 2014 at about 03:30 where two females 28 and 21 years were killed in two separate incidents in the village. The 21-year-old woman was alleged to have been raped whilst the 28-year-old was stabbed to death whilst sleeping with her 60-year-old mother and nine-year-old child.
