Kenya: Top Schools Should Advertise Their Merits

EDUCATION Cabinet Secretary Jacob Kaimenyi yesterday released the first Kenya Certificate of Primary Education examinations results under the new no-schools-ranking system.

When the ranking system was abolished, Prof Kaimenyi and other officials emphasized that the move would reduce cutthroat competition, a wide range of unfair practices and outright cheating. It will take a while - say, two unranked exam cycles - to gauge whether this is indeed the case.
