South Africa: Phoenix Police Recovered Drugs and Suspect Arrested

press release

Phoenix SAPS members conducted a crime intelligence operation on 4 January 2015 at Wareham road in Phoenix. The members followed up information that led them to a house and it was searched. 920 mandrax tablets, mandrax power, cocaine as well as dagga to the street value of R57 740 were recovered. A 43-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with possession of drugs. He is appearing today, 5 January 2015 in the Verulam Magistrate's Court.

KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, "The arrest is a clear indication that the Phoenix police will not deter from their duties and are enforcing the zero tolerance approach towards drug-related crimes. Community members are sensitised not to aid drug dealers but to assist the police in bringing the perpetrators to book. The scourge of drugs has negatively impacted on the youth and community as a whole and partnership policing will benefit all concerned," she said.
