Nigeria: Adesina - How Agriculture Attracted U.S.$5.6 Billion Into Economy in Three Years

Abuja — The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Akinwumi Adesina, on Friday attributed the attraction of over $5.6 billion into the economy within the last three years, because government deliberately exercised a strong political will to tackle the corruption associated with the distribution of seedlings and fertilizer to rural farmers across the country.

He said: "Farmers never used to get their fertilizer because of the massive corruption in that sector. The fertilizers meant for them would develop legs and walk away into the farms of rich and famous of people and that was because government was involved in the buying and distribution of fertilizer.
