The framers of the 1995 Constitution tried to cure wounds by changing the name of the army from National Resistance Army (NRA) to Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF).
The NRA name symbolised victory of a certain group over another - victory of mainly Banyankore with their Baganda recruits over mainly Acholis and Langis. The NRA lyrics such as "tunawapiga wanyanya..." were very telling.
