Uganda: Lecturers Must Earn Their Pay

After many years of haggling and strike action, the government and public universities have reached an understanding to raise the pay of lecturers and non-teaching staff.

President Museveni and minister of education Jessica Alupo have both confirmed that a university professor will now earn Shs 15m which is significantly higher than the current Shs 4m. University vice chancellors are to earn Shs 25m, up from between Shs 10m and Shs 15m.
