Sudan: Militiamen Kill Firewood Collector, Invade Town in South Darfur

Gireida / Kass — A displaced man was killed when collecting firewood in Gireida locality, South Darfur, this morning. On Thursday, militiamen kidnapped a child for several hours, who had been searching for firewood in Gireida. And during an attack on a village in Kass, a woman was raped and two men sustained serious injuries.

A listerner from the area told Dabanga that ten members of a pro-government militia opened fire on Ali Mohamed Ali at 10 am on Friday, 10 km west of Gireida town, and killed him on the spot. Ali was collecting firewood in an area called Hashaba. They alternately took his donkey and the donkey cart, and ran off on their camels and horses. "We have told the police about the incident," the witness said, "but they did not move."
