Malawi: Man Gets 12 Years in Prison for Chopping Off Wife's Hand

Lilongwe — Nkungula Magistrate Court sitting in Kanengo has sentenced Gilbert Pharaoh, 40 year of Jumpha Village, Traditional Authority Chimutu in Lilongwe to 12 years imprisonment with hard labour for chopping off wife's left hand.

According to Esther Mkwanda, Kanengo Police Public Relations Officer, on 22 October 2014 Pharaoh suspected that the wife Sophlet Kagwa had an extra marital affair and as a matter of expressing his anger chopped off her wife's left hand and two right hand fingers.
