South African schools don't just impart syllabus education to their learners. Schools are also places where South African youth absorb critically important messages about social attitudes. New research undertaken into homosexuality and homophobia in South African schools, shortly to be published, paints a partly hopeful, partly bleak picture of schools' handling of LGBTI issues.
