Malawi's traditional development partner United Kingdom has endorsed the country's ties with North Korea. The development comes after President Peter Mutharika came under attack on social media for having welcomed a North Korean ambassador to Malawi.
Commentators wondered what Malawi would benefit from the country which has been labelled by the western media as undemocratic where citizens do not have the chance to enjoy human rights. Others insinuated that Malawi was bound to lose trust in the eye of western partners that have been sponsoring some projects in the country.
