Nigeria: Dialogue as Panacea for NLC Crises

The recent fracas that disrupted the 11th Delegate's Conference of the Nigeria Labour Congress was a manifestation of underlying tensions within the congress. Damilola Oyedele writes that unless all grievances are adequately addressed, the unity of the congress will remain threatened

The memories of the show of shame at the venue of the 11th delegate conference of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on February 9 would stay with Nigerians for a long time mainly because the conduct of the representative of workers on that fateful day was completely unexpected of them. The labour movement is a sector of the country for which expectations are high. Nigerians had expected the labour organisation to conduct its elections in a peaceful manner, especially at this critical period where its actions should reflect expectations from the larger society in the 2015 polls.
