Yesterday, 25 February 2015, Sakhile Maxwel Sphephelo Khoza (29) appeared in the Pietermaritzburg High Court facing two counts of murder and assault charges. He was found guilty on all counts after the court heard how he committed these crimes in April 2014. He was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for killing Duduzile Khoza (53) and 15 years for killing his girlfriend Vamisile Ngidi (21). He was further sentenced to one year for assaulting his mother.
On 6 April 2013 at about 18:00, Sakhile Khoza and his girlfriend, Vamisile Ngidi were at their house at Nsuze area when they were involved in a serious argument. The accused started to assault his girlfriend using a bush knife. Their neighbour, Duduzile Khoza came to assist the woman who was assaulted by her boyfriend but she was also beaten to death. Vamisile Ngidi was also beaten to death. The accused also assaulted his mother who sustained serious injuries to her body and was rushed to hospital for treatment. Two counts of murder and assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm were opened at Nsuze police station for further investigation. Later the police arrested the accused and he was charged with two counts of murder and assault. He appeared in court on several times until he was convicted and sentenced by the Pietermaritzburg High Court.
