Nigeria: Don't Militarise Coming Elections, Adams Warns Govt

Lagos — The leader of O'odua Peoples Congress, OPC, Chief Gani Adams, has warned the Federal Government not to make the military take over the duties of the Police during the March and April elections. Adams, however threw his weight behind the deployment of solders to crisis-prone areas in the country.

He also noted that so far, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has not shown that it was ready to conduct the forthcoming elections without disenfranchising most of the eligible voters. He explained that in the South West alone, "No fewer than five million registered voters were yet to collect their Permanent Voter's Cards, PVCs, same in several geo-political zones across the country."
