Ethiopia: Raya Brewery to Have Own Malt Factory

Raya Brewery S.C is planning to have its own malt factory adjacent to the brewery plant in Maychew.

Raya Brewery was established with two billion Br and is located in Maychew 120 kilometers away from Mekele, capital of Tigray. The brewery has an installed capacity of producing 180 million bottles annually and it was officially inaugurated on February 15, 2015.

The factory designed a middle term plan to work with 8,000 farmers to source barley that will be used for the malt factory and it has started discussion with the farmers.

The company has started production by importing from global market and procuring malt form Asella Malt Factory, according to Tsadkan Gebretinsae (Luet), the plant manager of Raya.

The Brewery was established by 58 founding shareholders and now about 2,441 shareholders.

Ethiopia's beer industry consists of six major breweries with a have combined capacity of six million hectolitres a year.
