Ethiopia: Water Shortage Hampering Strides in Health Sector

Halaba Special Woreda was among the malaria worst hit areas, where the endemic claimed a heavy death toll. Beset by shortage of health facilities and professionals, new born and mothers death was high. However, following government's and partners' push, much has changed recently. The prevalence of diseases has fallen dramatically and the zone is soon to be malaria free area. At the same time, the rate of maternal and new born mortality has dropped significantly.

The number of health stations and posts that have come in to being are currently helping the community to get better health care services and cares. The achievements gained in the areas of health sector can been attested by beneficiaries and health workers. Despite the increasing health services in terms of coverage and quality, shortage of water supply and electricity have remained to be the major setbacks hampering the provision of health services.
