In partnership with the Ministry of Education and the Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE), MasterCard has begun giving out scholarships to promising students who come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds in Oromia, Amhara, the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples' Regional State, and Addis Ababa.
The implementation of the initiative, the MasterCard Foundation Scholars Programme, will last ten years and will eventually grant scholarships to 800 deserving students, particularly at the secondary-school level.
